Hormone Panel for Males

FAQ

  1. What is a hormone panel for males, and what does it test for?

A hormone panel for males is a group of blood tests that can help evaluate a range of sex hormones essential to male wellbeing and other important health markers like:

    • Testosterone
    • Estradiol
    • Prostate-Specific Antigen
    • Lipid and thyroid profiles

Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate how the body works and respond to its environment. By monitoring the levels of these important substances, your doctor can better diagnose any abnormal conditions that may be causing problems with your health and make changes to your treatment plan as needed. It is also a useful tool for monitoring hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

  2. Who should be getting a hormone panel test?

Men who are experiencing symptoms that are suggestive of a hormonal imbalance, such as:

    • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
    • Fatigue
    • Low sex drive
    • Low overall energy

Also, men undergoing hormone replacement therapy or those using anabolic steroids to enhance their athletic performance should get tested more often to ensure the safety of their treatment and determine the need for adjustments.

  3. What is the difference between a hormone panel for men and a hormone panel for women?

A hormone panel for men and women is similar in that it measures levels of hormones associated with sexual and metabolic functions, such as testosterone and estradiol. However, expected levels of each hormone differ, and so does treatment for any detected imbalances.

Both male and female hormone panels include thyroid and lipid profiles for a more comprehensive analysis of their health status in relation to hormones. Men's hormone panels also include Prostate-specific Antigen (PSA) testing to help detect the presence of cancer in the prostate, while women's hormone panels include tests to help detect the presence of ovarian cancer.

  4. Do I need to visit a doctor?

    No doctor visit needed.

  5. How do I get my results?

You get your results via email as soon as they are available.

  6. Does my lab prescription expire?
