Expert urges women to understand their fertility

Category: Infertitlity Hormone Testing

FSH testing may play an important role in a woman's family planning. It can help individuals understand their fertility levels and let them know what to expect in the future. This may prevent future disappointment.

Diana Thomas, the founder of the World Egg Bank, said that many women today experience fertility problems because women are waiting longer to start families than in the past. She said a female's peak fertility years typically occur between the ages of 20 and 24, but that many individuals today wait much longer.

"Educating women to know what their bodies can and can’t do during the reproduction years can mean the difference of whether a woman will be able to have children later in life," Thomas said. "When I speak to young groups of women in their early 20’s, I’m often reminded of myself at their age, and how much I didn’t know about my own fertility potential."

She recommended that women familiarize themselves with all the options available to them. There are ways fertility can be preserved, but most of these methods are most effective when they are started early in adulthood.ADNFCR-2248-ID-800761102-ADNFCR
