Can cell phone use help prevent Alzheimer's?

Category: General Health

According to recent lab tests, the electromagnetic waves produced from cell phones may be able to prevent or even reverse Alzheimer's disease.
In the study, dozens of mice who were genetically programmed to develop the disease were exposed to two hours of cell phone radiation every day for seven to nine months.

Researchers found that the memory and thinking skills of mice predisposed to Alzheimer's were protected. For mice that were already showing symptoms of the disease, memory impairment disappeared and dangerous amyloid plaques associated with the illness were erased, NBC Health reports.

According to Health Day, the findings were actually the opposite of what researchers had expected.

"You can imagine our surprise when we did our first memory assessment and they were actually better," said study author Gary Arendash. "We continued to see the beneficial effects in test after test, in group after group."

Researchers do warn that this is a preliminary study and that no one should feel that they are being protected from cognitive decline by using a cell phone.

"I think that still a ton of work needs to be done but at least it shows a glimmer of hope with some of the treatment," said neurologist Richard Isaacson, quoted by the news source.
