Most people think vitamin D testing should be done on a yearly basis

Category: Vitamin D Deficiency-Diagnosis and Treatment

Many people are experiencing nutritional deficiencies today, and a majority of individuals think that vitamin D testing should be conducted at least once a year as part of an annual wellness visit.

This was the finding of a recent survey conducted by MedPage Today. The results showed that 69 percent believe vitamin D testing is so important it should be conducted on a yearly basis.

"I have just been rescued from severely low vitamin D levels, and my daughter has been found to have low vitamin levels as well. I wish my doctors had been checking levels all along," one reader said in the poll, according to the news source.

Many respondents correctly said that overcooking vegetables, nutrient-depleted soil, increased stress and overreliance on processed foods can contribute to poor nutritional status. Given the prevalence of these things, it is important for individuals to have their nutrient levels assessed on a regular basis.

The Vitamin D Council has estimated that 50 percent of the worldwide population has low levels of the nutrient. This can contribute to musculoskeletal problems, poor immune health and potentially increase the risk of some cancers.
