It appears MTV's message of Get Yourself Tested has reached a New York school board who approved to have STD testing available to students.
The Port Chester public school district will provide pregnancy and STD tests to students who request them this fall in an effort to curtail the spread of certain diseases such as herpes, chlamydia and AIDS.
Open Door Family Medical Centers tabled the proposal which was passed by the school board last month after the organization asked to expand its services to include pregnancy and STD tests for students.
School board members told ABC News that the change was proposed because some female students found out they were pregnant only when they were tested before routine vaccinations.
Jim Dreves, one of board members who approved the proposal, said that incorporating the two extra tests would address a growing need in society, according to the article.
"If a kid comes in and says 'I think I have a problem,' to be able to do the test is important," Dreves said.
In April MTV started a campaign to convince younger people to get an STD test and since then the music channel has been praised for increasing the awareness among the nation's youth.
