Individuals make resolutions to improve heart health

It is currently the time for New Year's resolutions. Millions of people all across the country are pledging to give up smoking, eat healthier or hit the gym. While sticking to a resolution can mean heard work, doing so may pay off later in the form of improved cholesterol test results.

Each of the resolutions mentioned above have been shown to improve cholesterol levels. Smoking is one of the primary causes of poor heart health. Tobacco use has been connected to a range of heart health problems and may lead to dangerous accumulations of plaque in the arteries. This may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Aside from smoking, few things have been shown to contribute to high cholesterol more than an healthy diet. Americans eat large quantities of high-fat foods. This leads directly to cholesterol buildups throughout the body.

Even for individuals who have not made resolutions to make these lifestyle changes, their cholesterol levels may still benefit from increasing their levels of physical activity. This can kick-start their metabolism and get their body working to sweep deadly cholesterol from their veins.

Regardless of the resolution, sticking to a plan that can improve heart health may be extremely important this year.
