Given the fact that so many people in America have received unhealthy cholesterol test results, medications to address the problem are big business. These prescriptions are generally effective at improving cholesterol levels, but they can be expensive. However, there are other options for bringing cholesterol numbers back in line.
Kali Simmonds, a doctor of naturopathic medicine who practises in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, recently wrote in the Charlottetown Guardian that Sytrinol, a naturally occurring herb, has been shown in clinical trials to provide similar cholesterol-lowering results as prescription medications.
"The research is impressive and there are no known side effects, so I would recommend it," she wrote. "Maintaining normal cholesterol is an important cardiovascular factor."
A recent editorial written in the journal Nutrition Review stated that Sytrinol has been shown in several clinical trials to lower cholesterol without any adverse side effects. In one study, participants saw 24 percent reductions in total cholesterol.
This may make the product an effective natural option for individuals who are uninterested or cannot afford prescription medications.
