Category: Vitamin D Deficiency-Diagnosis and Treatment
As research continues to pour in extolling the benefits of vitamin D, more people than ever before are seeking vitamin D testing and taking supplements, according to a new report from Consumer Lab.
The market research firm found that more than 56 percent of individuals who take dietary supplements take vitamin D. This is an increase from 47 percent when the company did the survey in 2009. The survey also showed that omega-3 supplements and general multivitamins remain very popular.
However, vitamin D experienced the greatest annual jump. The findings of the survey come following the release of several studies, which have shown that the nutrient may have a range of health benefits.
For example, several investigations have shown that vitamin D is connected to respiratory health. It has also been linked to improved immune system function. Additionally, it has long been know that it plays an important role in the absorption of calcium, which is key for strong bones.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends that individuals get between 400 and 800 international units of vitamin D each day.
