People who are interested in their health status, particularly if they are concerned about high cholesterol, should consider getting a lipid profile test.
Earlier this month it was reported that people who have high cholesterol levels may be at an increased risk of developing osteoporosis, which can reduce their bone health.
By getting a lipid profile test, they will get three numbers related to various levels: total cholesterol, HDL or high-density lipoprotein (known as the good cholesterol) and LDL or low-density lipoprotein.
A healthy person's total cholesterol level should be under 200 mg, HDL should be above 60 and LDL below 100 mg. If a person's cholesterol test falls outside of those parameters, it may be time to seek a doctor.
In terms of the lipid profile test, it can also be administer as an online lab test, which can save a person time by forgoing the process of making an appointment at a doctor's office and then going in for an appointment.
Online testing offers convenience and in many instances is a cost-effective alternative to the doctor's office.
