This test is ideal if you're experiencing unexplained urethral symptoms like itching, burning during urination, or unusual discharge. It helps detect trichomoniasis (trich), a common sexually transmitted infection that often has no symptoms but can be easily treated once identified. Many men use this test to confirm their sexual health status, especially after potential exposure or when a partner has been diagnosed.
You should not urinate for at least one hour before providing your sample. You'll collect a first-catch urine specimen, which means the first 20-30 mL of your urine stream when you start urinating. Collecting too much urine can dilute the sample and reduce the test's accuracy, so follow the collection instructions carefully.
This test uses highly sensitive RNA detection technology to identify Trichomonas vaginalis, the parasite that causes trichomoniasis. This advanced method can detect the infection even when you have no symptoms, which is important since most men with trich don't realize they're infected. Early detection helps prevent transmission to partners and potential complications like urethritis or prostatitis.
What this means
Your test came back negative, meaning no Trichomonas vaginalis RNA was detected in your sample. This is the expected and healthy result, indicating you do not have an active trichomoniasis infection at this time.
Recommended actions
Continue practicing safe sex by using condoms consistently
Consider regular STD testing every 6-12 months if sexually active with multiple partners
Maintain open communication with sexual partners about testing and sexual health
If a partner tests positive in the future, get retested even without symptoms
