This test is ideal if you're experiencing unexplained genital sores, blisters, itching, or discomfort and want to know if HSV-2 (genital herpes) is the cause. It's also helpful if you've had potential exposure to herpes, want to confirm your status before starting a new relationship, or need peace of mind about your sexual health. Many people use this test when they have symptoms that come and go or want to understand their infection status.
No special preparation is needed for this test. However, keep in mind that it can take an average of 25 days after exposure for antibodies to develop and be detectable. If you suspect recent infection but test negative or equivocal, you should retest in 4-6 weeks to allow enough time for antibodies to appear in your blood.
This test detects HSV-2 IgG antibodies, which indicate whether you've been exposed to the herpes simplex virus type 2. If the initial result is positive, it automatically includes a confirmation test (HSV-2 Inhibition) to ensure accuracy and reduce false positives. This two-step approach provides reliable results to help you understand your infection status and make informed decisions about treatment and disclosure to partners.
What this means
Your test came back negative, meaning no HSV-2 antibodies were detected in your blood. This indicates you have not been exposed to or infected with the herpes simplex virus type 2. This is the expected and healthy result.
Recommended actions
