Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TAA) - (QUEST DIAGNOSTICS)
Measurement of thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibodies is useful in the diagnosis and management of a variety of thyroid disorders including autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto's Disease, Graves Disease and certain types of goiter.
Thyroid antibody testing is primarily ordered to help diagnose an autoimmune thyroid disease and to separate it from other forms of thyroiditis. It may be ordered to help investigate the cause of an enlarged thyroid gland (goiter) or performed as a follow-up when thyroid test results such as T3, T4 and TSH are abnormal indicating thyroid dysfunction.
This test profile is used by physicians in the differential diagnosis of hypothyroidism and thyroiditis, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

This test may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H or coenzyme R). It is recommended to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of specimen.
