Fibrinogen Antigen - (QUEST DIAGNOSTICS)

Description: Low levels of fibrinogen are associated with bleeding most commonly secondary to liver disease or Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC). Fibrinogen is an acute phase reactant and thus elevated levels may be associated with inflammation. Increased concentrations are also associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis. Diagnosis of homozygous and heterozygous fibrinogen deficiency as well as dysfibrinogenemia; diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation; fibrinogen levels can be used to assess the effectiveness of thrombolytic therapy. PT. WILL NEED HEMATOCRIT TO HAVE TEST PERFORMED. If unavailable pt. can order a CBC (complete Blood Count) to obtain a hematocrit.

Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Includes: Fibrinogen Antigen

Patient Instructions: Overnight fasting is required. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 8 hours before testing.
