Pregnancy test (very early) - Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), Total, Quantitative - (QUEST DIAGNOSTICS)
Determine the presence of hCG in patients with gestational trophoblastic disease; evaluate and monitor male patients with testicular tumors; follow up molar pregnancy. The quantitative hCG assay should be used for nonroutine detection of hCG (eg, ectopic pregnancy, threatened abortions, miscarriages, or very early pregnancy). hCG may reach detectable limits within 7-10 days of conception. hCG is produced by the placenta and reaches a peak between the 7th and 10th week of gestation.
hCG is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the syncytiotrophoblast of the placenta and secreted during normal pregnancy and with pathologic conditions such as hydatidiform mole, choriocarcinoma and testicular neoplasm.
A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.
Alternative Name(s):Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Chorionic Gonadotropin, hCG
hCG Quantitative, Serum.
