This test is intended for use as an aid in the management of patients following surgical or medical treatment for prostate cancer. For post-prostatectomy patients. The lower limit of accurate quantification for this assay is 0.02 ng/mL. PSA values less than 0.02 ng/mL cannot be accurately measured and will be reported as less than 0.02 ng/mL. Specimens with PSA levels below the lower limit of accurate quantification should be considered as negative. In patients with a negative result for post-prostatectomy PSA, serial monitoring of PSA levels at regular intervals, along with physical examinations and other tests, may help to detect recurrent prostate cancer.
A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.
Please Note: This test is for male clients only, due to ordering restrictions on certain tests, the PSA test will not be included on the requisition and will not be performed when ordered by females.
PSA, Post Prostatectomy (Ultrasensitive)
PSA sampling should not be performed for at least 6 weeks after prostatic biopsy. For best results no ejaculation for 24 hours before submitting specimen. Estimated turnaround for results is 3 business days. If confirmation testing is required, the estimated time may be extended.
Prostate Cancer Profile (Male Clients ONLY) - (LABCORP)
Please Note: Due to ordering restrictions on certain tests, this test can ONLY be performed on Male clients. The Prostate Cancer Profile, which measures blood levels of certain proteins that the prostate releases into the blood, may detect cancer of the prostate gland. A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.
Total Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA); free PSA when total is between 4 and 10.
PSA sampling should not be performed for at least 6 weeks after prostatic biopsy. For accurate test results, no ejaculation during the 24 hours preceding the test. This test may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H or coenzyme R). It is recommended to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of specimen. Estimated turnaround for results is 3 business days. If confirmation testing is required, the estimated time may be extended.
