This test is ideal if you're experiencing persistent stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, or unexplained digestive discomfort. It detects H. Pylori infections, which are a common cause of ulcers and chronic gastritis that can lead to more serious stomach problems if left untreated. Many people use this test when they have ongoing stomach issues and want to identify if bacteria is the underlying cause.
For initial testing, no special preparation is required—you don't need to fast or stop eating normally. However, if you're on proton pump inhibitors or antibiotics, discuss with your physician as these medications can cause false negative results. For best results, provide a semi-solid or solid stool sample (not watery or diarrheal) in the container provided by the lab. If you're testing to confirm eradication after treatment, wait at least 4 weeks after completing antibiotics before testing.
This test measures Helicobacter Pylori Antigen using an enzyme immunoassay on a stool sample. H. Pylori is a bacteria that lives in the stomach lining and is strongly linked to ulcers, chronic gastritis, and increased risk of stomach cancer. This stool antigen test is highly sensitive for detecting active infections and is also useful for confirming whether treatment has successfully eliminated the bacteria.
What this means
Your test came back negative, meaning no H. Pylori bacteria was detected in your stool sample. This is a healthy result that rules out H. Pylori as the cause of your digestive symptoms. If you continue experiencing stomach issues, other causes such as diet, stress, or other gastrointestinal conditions may need to be explored.
Recommended actions
Maintain a balanced diet with plenty of fiber and avoid trigger foods like spicy or acidic items
Manage stress through relaxation techniques as it can affect digestion
Keep a food diary to identify any patterns with digestive discomfort
If symptoms persist, consult with a gastroenterologist to explore other possible causes
