Thyroid Profile w/ TSH TestThe Thyroid Profile with TSH measures thyroid function, which plays an important role in regulating your metabolism and your body's "thermostat". Physicians use this thyroid blood test to diagnose both hyper and hypothyroidism (over and underactive thyroid disease). Private MD Lab Services uses the latest 3rd generation or "ultra-sensitive" TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) test as part of our Thyroid Profile. TSH measures how well your thyroid gland is working. A high TSH level means that your thyroid gland is underactive. When your thyroid gland is underactive and not producing enough thyroid hormone, your body produces more TSH to stimulate the gland and increase its activity. A low TSH level means that your thyroid gland is overactive. When your thyroid gland is overactive and producing too much thyroid hormone, your body decreases the amount of TSH to slow production of thyroid hormone.
