(This testosterone test will also provide results when the total testosterone value is >1500 but <10,000.)
Patient should fast for 12 hours preceding collection of specimen. If using a testosterone cream please be sure you have not rubbed any into the antecubital area of your arm for the last 24 hours as it can give elevated results. Some tests in this panel may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H or coenzyme R). Patient should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.

Estimated turnaround for results is 5 business days. If confirmation testing is required, the estimated time may be extended.

Use of synthetic steroids, various supplements and/or high doses of biotin may interfere with the accuracy of the standard immunoassay Testosterone Total serum test included in this panel. If you are taking any of these it is recommended that you order a panel that includes the Testosterone LC/MS-MS methodology for testing.

Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH);
Luteinizing Hormone (LH);
Testosterone, Serum (Total Only);

Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Differential: (Hematocrit; hemoglobin; mean corpuscular volume (MCV); mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH); mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC); red cell distribution width (RDW); percentage and absolute differential counts; platelet count; red cell count; white blood cell count; immature granulocytes)

What is a Female Hormone Panel?

The Female Hormone Panel is a series of tests designed to assess the hormone levels in women, which can be useful in determining whether or not a patient is beginning menopause, or in cases of infertility, what deficiencies might exist that could point to a medical cause. Many of the tests offered by Private MD not only evaluate a patient for hormone levels, but also check a patient’s general health in order to provide comprehensive results on other internal abnormalities that could be causing symptoms related to a condition outside of menopause.

Who May Need a Female Hormone Panel?

Middle-aged women, and those experiencing difficulties with becoming pregnant, will most benefit from having their hormone levels checked in order to either begin hormone replacement therapy, or make lifestyle changes which could improve certain aspects of their hormone levels. Also, patients who have experienced symptoms related to menopause, as well as those looking to discover the source of a chronic condition possibly linked to abnormal hormone levels or general health, will also be provided enough information to work with their physician in determining a method of treatment.

What Should I Expect from My Female Hormone Panel?

The Female Hormone Panel gives detailed information on the levels currently present in a woman’s body, which can be useful in determining whether hormone replacement therapy is an option, or if an ongoing therapy has been effective. Some tests also provide a comprehensive view of the overall health of a patient to provide greater insight into the cause of symptoms possibly linked to menopause, infertility or other female conditions.

FAQ

  1. What is a female hormone test?

    A female hormone test measures the levels of hormones in a woman's blood, including estrogen and progesterone. The test can diagnose hormone imbalances and changes, such as those that occur during menopause or pregnancy.

  3. What are the accuracy rates of female hormone tests?

    The accuracy of female hormone tests vary depending on the specific test being used, the woman's hormone levels, and the laboratory conducting the test. They tend to be very accurate if performed correctly by an experienced laboratory.

  4. What hormone tests are done for female fertility?

    The most common hormone tests done for female fertility are:

    • Luteinizing hormone (LH)
    • Progesterone
    • Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
    • Estradiol

    These hormones can be measured together or separately.

  5. How often should women get their hormones tested?

    A female should have a hormone panel yearly to check for endocrine disorders or abnormalities. However, you should get tested twice a year or sooner if you present:

    • Changes in weight

    • Cardiac alterations
    • Fatigue
  6. Do I need to visit a doctor?

    No doctor visit needed.
