In recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Pints for Prostates, a grassroots campaign to support victims of prostate cancer will tour the U.S. to raise awareness for their cause amidst the comforts of snifters and suds.
In the month of September, Pints for Prostates will occupy events at nine bars, taverns or beer festivals across the country to raise money, spirits and awareness of prostate health issues.
The events, which will also acknowledge survivors of the disease, are scheduled to occur in California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Ohio.
All of the money raised by Pints for Prostates will advance the Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, a nonprofit charitable organization geared toward educating and advocating for men with prostate cancer and their families.
According to Rick Lyke, a survivor of prostate cancer, "Pints for Prostates uses the universal language of beer to encourage men to take charge of their health." Lyke added that the campaign provides a "non-threatening way" for allowing men to "talk to other men and shake off the stigma of prostate cancer."
More than 2 million men in the U.S. who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer are still alive, and about one out of every six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in his life, according to estimates by the American Cancer Society.
