Hepatitis A and B Immune Status Profile Test
Hepatitis A is a viral
infection of the liver. The liver becomes inflamed, tender, and swollen. Hepatitis
A is caused by the hepatitis A virus. The virus can be spread by contact with
infected bowel movements. An infected person may pass hepatitis A to others
by not washing his or her hands, especially after using the bathroom.
Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver, which becomes inflamed, tender
and swollen. Areas of liver tissue may be destroyed by the inflammation. Hepatitis
B is a serious, sometimes severe and even fatal type of hepatitis. In addition
to being a sexually transmitted disease (STD), Hepatitis B is a bloodborne
pathogen and exposure to the blood of an infected person may result in infection.
This test is used to establish immunity to hepatitis A and B.
