Sodium, Urine (24hr) Test
The urine sodium test is used to
evaluate volume depletion, acute renal failure, acute oliguria, and differential
diagnosis of hyponatremia. Division of hyponatremia into hypervolemia or not,
edema or not, and urinary sodium less than or greater than 10 mmol/L provides
a classification of hyponatremia. History of diuretics, other drug intake,
setting of osmotic diuresis or not, serum/plasma electrolytes and other factors
are important in test interpretation.
A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation
by your physician.
