Cysticercosis (Taenia solium) Test
This test is used to
diagnose Taenia solium or tape worm infection. This
test screens serum for antibodies (primarily IgG) against Taenia solium
. Antibody response is highly variable with respect to cyst location
and an individual's response to infection. If a current infection is suspected,
it is suggested that a convalescent serum sample be submitted in 3-5 weeks.
All positive serology samples should be confirmed using a more specific test
method, such as the immunoblot or other nonserological methods (CDC), due
to the cross-reactivity encountered with Echinococcus .
Significant deviations
from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.
