Treatment for arthritis may be linked to liver damage

Category: Liver Diseases

Treatment for arthritis may be linked to liver damage A common treatment for arthritis may increase the risk of receiving unhealthy liver panel tests, according to a new study published in the Annals of Internal medicine. The researchers recommended caution when considering using this treatment.

In the study, researchers from Indiana University examined the effect of a product called Limbrel, also known as flavocoxid. This is a medical food that contains a number of antioxidants and other substances that are thought to improve joint function. It is available only by prescription.

The team examined the records of 877 people who had been diagnosed with liver disease. The results showed that four of the participants had used flavocoxid at some point. The team said it appeared very likely from the evidence that the product caused three of the cases and may have been behind the fourth.

Individuals should use caution when they are considering using flavocoxid. Furthermore, if anyone has experienced any liver complications while using the product they should stop taking it immediately. The study results showed that terminating use appeared to restore liver function.ADNFCR-2248-ID-800810382-ADNFCR
