Some foods may boost fertility

Category: Infertitlity Hormone Testing

Certain foods become very common around Valentine's Day due to their reputation as aphrodisiacs. But experts say that many of the same foods that are considered to give a boost to desire may also benefit individuals who have learned that they have substandard fertility through FSH testing.

Shelly Marie Redmond, a Louisiana-based licensed dietitian and nutritionist, told USA Today that foods like strawberries, almonds, garlic, avocadoes and figs are all being researched for their potential to boost fertility. Some of these so-called "love foods" may have a usefulness that extends beyond the bedroom.

"It's definitely meant to be fun, but there are some interesting facts about these foods," Redmond says. "They're doing some studies in fertility with food, and even though they may not be commonly associated as love foods, they definitely are related."

The Harvard Medical School does not necessarily specify particular foods that are good for boosting FSH test results, but it does suggest limiting trans and saturated fat, increasing consumption of vegetable protein and consuming plenty of vitamins and iron.
