Women who have learned through FSH testing that they have low levels of fertility and are undergoing treatments for the condition may benefit from seeking acupuncture. New research shows that this therapy may improve the outcome of in vitro fertilization.
A team of researchers from Huazhong University in China examined results from 24 previous investigations that looked for potential correlations between acupuncture treatment and improved fertility.
The results showed that several studies have suggested there may be an association between the ancient Chinese medicine and improved fertility treatment outcomes. Still, the team stopped short of saying it definitely led to better results, as some studies indicated that the benefits may be minimal.
The team said it was difficult to determine a precise benefit associated with acupuncture, as various studies have looked at different forms of acupuncture and alternate fertility therapies.
Ultimately, the researchers concluded that acupuncture, while not sufficient in and of itself to help a woman become pregnant, may give an individual undergoing fertility treatments somewhat higher chances of conceiving.
