Allergy Testing
Group works to raise awareness of food allergies
Updated: 2011-10-14 16:07:19 CST Category: Allergy Testing
The number of young people who receive positive food allergy tests continues to rise, yet despite this fact, many people remain unaware of the dangers posed by the condition. Efforts are currently underway to raise the public's awareness of this potentially life-threatening condition.
The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network is currently planning a charity walk in Los Angeles to help raise money toward finding a cure for the condition as well as to alert more people to the potential dangers of food allergies.
"Despite the rise in the number of people with food allergies, there is still a lack of awareness," said Cybele Pascal, who is serving as the chair of the event. She added that up to 15 million people in the U.S. suffer from food allergies.
Numbers indicate that the problem has only gotten worse in recent years. Some people who suffer from food allergies face potentially deadly situations if they are exposed to their food triggers. Still, many people who are unaffected by the condition feel as though it must not be that serious of a problem.
